VISITING STREETLAB
What up. What’s haapnin! Well…it’s getting much colder nowadays and finally we gotta
face the shitty weather in here. That’s what’s up. And it’s just the beginning, can you
imagine? Welcome to the suck. BUT there are things you look forward to, like meeting the
brains behind STREETLAB.
Streetlab is a Dutch platform for young streetfashion designers and street artists. Since
December 2005 Streetlab is organizing several small and bigger events, exhibitions, parties
and festivals in and around Amsterdam.
Streetlab’s main goal is to stimulate young artists and designers to develop their creativity so
they can eventually bring it to market. By offering talented youngsters a visible podium, and
bringing them in contact with the fashion industry, Streetlab supports and encourages their
professional development and entrepreneurship. In addition, Streetlab brings different young
designers in contact with each other, thus encouraging cross-platform and cross-cultural
collaboration.
During Amsterdam Fashion Week in July 2007 Streetlab organized a four-day festival
at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam. 60 (inter)national streetfashion & streetart designers exhibit
their work. Earlier this year Streetlab started with several international projects in Istanbul and
New York.
Last September Streetlab organized a four-day event in Amsterdam Zuidoost with exhibitions,
pop-up shops, live music, fashion shows, performances, talkshows and workshops.
So it’s an honor meeting two creative brains behind Streetlab: Jochem Veen and Maud Göttgens.
We did some brainstorming about future plans, projects and concepts. The feeling is good, it
feels right. Let’s see where it goes from here. Watch us.
