RAY BAN WAYFARER ARTIST: CHRIS MENDOZA
Bring some life and personality to the classic Wayfarers, 36-year old artist Chris Mendoza will be working with Ray Ban for the limited-edition Sunglass Hut Art Series. The drawing inspirations come from Mendoza’s Nicaraguan roots featuring primitive, abstract shapes and eighties-style graffiti. Available in black, red and white, only 100 of these will be available in each color and will retail for $250. While it may be steep for a pair of Wayfarers, keep in mind that these are very limited and that 25% of the proceeds will be going towards the Giving the Gift of Sight organization. Available exclusively at Sunglass Hut on December 3rd.
TOKYO LOWRIDERS @ MAKUHARI CONVENTION CENTRE
The lowrider scene has been strong in Japan since the late 80s and early 90s. Even with the emergence of the big wheel scene in the US their popularity remains. While the Japanese automakers have been exporting new cars by the boatload to countries around the world hungry for high quality fuel efficient vehicles, those same boats have been returning to Japan with a precious cargo of heavy Chevys, old skool Lincolns and Caddys for many years. The Japanese love cars and not just the ones they produce. The cities of Japan are full of exotic cars from all over the world and the streets are home to a diverse mix automotive genres and subcultures. Italian supercars, replica rally cars, old skool hot rods and lowriders all share the road with Honda and Toyota’s latest offerings.

CHINESE FARMER BUILDS UP ARMY OF 26 ROBOTS
Not even wacky Chinese farmers are immune to the unstable economic climate, it seems, as our old friend Mr. Woo was recently forced to sell off some of his robot creations to make some extra scratch. This news is especially sad when we consider the fact that Woo, who has built 26 robots over the past 30 years, considers each of them his sons. “They are all my sons, so they must bear my surname,” he said. There was no word on which of his sons went on the auction block, so we hope it is not Wu No. 25 (pictured), the son Wu loves best.
Here’s the cheeky Paul Merton visiting Mr. Woo in 2007. Back in the good ol’ days. Back when robots were free and weren’t forced into slavery by their poor, destitute masters.
